North Sea Jazz is going to town! Due to the corona measures, the NN North Sea Jazz festival has unfortunately been postponed for another year, but concerts are organized throughout Rotterdam under the name NN North Sea Jazz Downtown. On Saturday 10 July it will be the turn of the Metropole Orkest. Together with José James and under the direction of Miho Hazama, the orchestra will then be in the RTM Stage, the newest concert hall in Rotterdam Ahoy.
José James is no stranger to the orchestra. This American living in Amsterdam already traveled to Bremen in 2019 together with Metropole Orkest Big Band. At North Sea Jazz we go bigger and he is accompanied by the full orchestra.
José, the baritone with a unique style from Minneapolis, is inspired by jazz greats Herbie Hancock and John Coltrane, but also by singers such as Prince of David Bowie and hip-hop icons A Tribe Called Quest and Mos Def.
José will perform his best work together with the orchestra.
Vladimir Nikolov arranged two pieces for this concert, “Equinox” by John Coltrane and “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers.
The concerts during NN North Sea Jazz Downtown are open to the public according to the then applicable rules and are simultaneously streamed for free via the North Sea Jazz website.
